REMINDER: In-Depth Toy Safety & Compliance Seminar to be Held at Toy Fair
February 10, 2017 | The Toy Industry Association (TIA) is reminding all Toy Fair attendees of a free, in-depth safety seminar taking place on the morning of Monday, February 20th at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. TIA’s “Toy Safety & Compliance Update” will provide manufacturers, retailers, toy inventors, testing labs, and others in the toy industry with news and developments related to toy safety laws and regulations in the U.S. and abroad.
Kicking off at 9:30 a.m., the three-hour seminar will begin with a keynote address from Marietta Robinson, commissioner at the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), and include a presentation by Shelby Mathis, CPSC small business ombudsman.
TIA experts in safety standards and legislative affairs will also cover special topics of interest, including the new administration’s impact on the toy industry, implementation of the reformed Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), and details about the recently revised ASTM F963-16: Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Toy Safety.
“This always well-attended session provides attendees with critical information to ensure compliance with toy safety standards, as well as updates on pending state, federal, and global regulations that could impact the toy industry,” says Ed Desmond, executive vice president of external affairs at TIA. “It’s a not-to-be-missed opportunity to hear from leading experts, ask questions, and receive practical guidance for the business of creating, producing, and delivering safe toys and games worldwide.”

- Status of Toy Safety Standard ASTM F963-16 … And What’s Next for the Standard presented by Joan Lawrence, senior vice president of standards & regulatory affairs, TIA, and chair of the ASTM Subcommittee on Toy Safety
- Focus on Small Businesses – Tips from the CPSC Small Business Ombudsman with Shelby Mathis, CPSC Small Business Ombudsman
- EPA and Implementation of the Reformed Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) presented by Autumn Moore, manager of standards & regulatory affairs, TIA

The February 20th session will be held in Room 1E09 (Hall 1E) at the Javits Center during the 114th North American International Toy Fair. Drop-ins welcome; registration for the free seminar is not required.
