TIA to Host Global Market Research Sessions on India and the U.S. at Toy Fair 2017

December 13, 2016 | The Toy Industry Association (TIA) will unveil its latest global market research  during several  “Knowledge Network” seminars presented at the 114th North American International Toy Fair. The presentations will include a session on India, taking place on Sunday, February 19th, and one on the United States, taking place on Monday, February 20th.  The seminars will provide attendees with in-depth market analysis to help toy companies expand their businesses.

India is a rapidly expanding geographic area for the toy industry with the world’s highest percentage of children at 29% of its population. By 2020, India will be the third largest consumer market behind the United States and China.

The presentations build upon TIA’s repertoire of in-depth global market research. Last year’s sessions on the U.K. and Canada were a resounding success among Toy Fair attendees.

“While some countries may not be the right fit for every toy company, these presentations offer granular market information so that attendees can determine whether or not expansion makes sense for their products,” said Anne McConnell, TIA’s senior director of market research & data strategy.

In the first session on India, taking place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., David Selvaraj, an independent consultant with more than 30 years of experience in the Indian toy industry, will share research on India’s economy, toy market and the overall opportunities for expansion there. Philippe Guinaudeau, CEO of Kidz Global, will also share his findings from “The Indian Toy Consumer and Kids’ Routines,” which surveyed parents and kids through age 14 in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Bangalore. His discussion will address: gift-giving occasions; popular entertainment brands among kids; kids’ daily routines; their use of digital media; and pocket money trends.

Monday’s market research session from 2 to 3 p.m. will focus on the U.S. TIA’s McConnell will give a short overview of U.S. demographics and sales and product trends in the toy industry market – such as the growing movement towards toys that build science, technology, engineering, arts and math skills (STEM and STEAM-related toys). Kidz Global’s Guinaudeau will present information from his U.S. report on popular brands with kids, children’s daily routines and play habits, their use of digital media, and more.

Toy Fair will take place February 18-21, 2017 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City.  Looking to register for Toy Fair? Click here or download the free Toy Fair Mobile App (available on iTunes and Google Play). Be sure to check out the full calendar of events for Toy Fair.
